Editorial policy
What our recommendations are based on, what they are not based on, and how we fix things when we get them wrong.
What our recommendations rest on
Most pages on this site are generated from a product catalogue and a set of rules, not written one at a time. That is a deliberate choice — it is the only way to cover a catalogue this size consistently — but it puts the burden on being honest about what the analysis actually is.
- Aggregated customer ratings from Amazon UK: the average score and the number of ratings behind it.
- Published specifications: capacity, weight, waterproof ratings, certifications, sizes.
- Category knowledge written by us: what the specifications mean, which ones matter for which use, and the mistakes buyers commonly make.
What they do not rest on
We have not physically tested most of the products listed here, and we do not pretend otherwise. You will not find the phrase “we tested” on a page where we did not. Where we describe how something performs, we are describing specifications and what a large number of verified buyers reported — which is useful, and is a different claim.
We also do not assign our own numeric scores. An invented “8.4/10” looks authoritative and means nothing without a methodology behind it.
Thresholds
A page that lists three products is rarely worth a visitor’s time. We apply hard floors: a category or filter page needs at least 3 products to exist at all, and at least 8 before we consider it substantial enough to promote. Filter combinations that would not narrow anything down are not published, because a page that repeats its parent under a different heading wastes everyone’s time.
Prices and availability
Every price carries the date it was checked. We do not display a price without one, and we do not describe anything as the “cheapest” or “lowest price” because we cannot verify that claim across the whole market. See price accuracy.
Corrections
If we publish something wrong, we correct it rather than quietly delete it. Substantive corrections to editorial pages are noted on the page. If you have spotted an error — a wrong specification, a misfiled product, a broken link — please tell us; it is the cheapest way for this site to get better.
